Anekantavada

The philosophy of Anekantavada (multiplicity of truth) –

There is the objective truth, and then their is the subjective truth for the same objective truth and which varies from person to person as per the perception of that person. Hence, truth seen varies from person to person as per the perception of the individual. Subjective truth is also influenced by one’s biases. To be close to objective truth one has to be be completely rational in thinking by keeping emotions in check. To accept the idea of objective and subjective truth, is to bring clarity to thought process and also helps to avoid conflict.

Anekantavada is the most important value of Jainism after Ahimsa (Non – Violence).

The story of Blind men and Elephant originates from Jain scripture that explains Anekantavada.
